People have been finding alternative uses for peanut butter for thousands of years. The Aztecs reportedly used peanut butter to soothe a toothache. However, you’re probably only familiar with peanut butter being used as food.

But there are tons of non-food related uses for peanut butter. Here are 15 of our favorite:

Clean Vinyl and Leather

Mix some perfumed oil into some peanut butter and rub it on your vinyl and leather in a circular motion. Wipe away with a clean cloth to clean and shine up your vinyl and leather.

Clean Car Windshield

You can remove bugs, tar, and tree sap from your car windshield by rubbing some peanut butter on the area you want to clean. Just rinse it off with a hose.

Eliminate Fish Smells

If you don’t want your whole house to smell like fish when you’re cooking, put a spoonful of peanut butter in the same pan as the fish that you’re frying. It will absorb the fish smelly.

Fix Scratched CDs and DVDs

Spread some peanut butter on the scratched area and let it sit for a few minutes before gently wiping it off. The oils in the peanut butter will fill in the scratches so it can play again without skipping. Just make sure you use smooth peanut butter and not chunky.

Hiccups Remedy

Eat a large teaspoon of peanut butter and eat it slowly. The chewing will disrupt your breathing pattern which will rid you of hiccups.

Conditioner

Use peanut butter in place of conditioner to repair dry and damaged hair.

Remove Glue

Get glue, sticker residue, or epoxy off of your hands and work surfaces by rubbing some peanut butter on the sticky surfaces and gently scrub with a sponge.

Stop a Squeaky Hinge

Rub some peanut butter on a squeaky door hinge and open and close the door to move the oil through the hinges. This will stop it from squeaking.

Black Car Trim Polish

You can’t use car wax on the black trim of your car, so peanut butter is the perfect remedy. Peanut butter will even take up any wax that accidentally got on your black trim.

Fish Bait

Put a little piece of peanut butter or PB&J sandwich on your fishing hook as bait. Fish will love it.

Trick Your Dog Into Taking Medicine

If your dog refused to take their medication you can trick them into it by putting their pills inside of a chunk of peanut butter which they will gladly eat.

Remove Gum From Hair

If you get gum stuck in your hair, rub peanut butter on it and gently pull it out while you rinse it through with water.

Remove Gum From Carpets

If you get gum in your carpet, remove as much of it as you can. Using a hair dryer to heat the area by rubbing a plastic bag on it will help. Then rub some peanut butter over it, let it sit for 5 minutes, and wipe it up with a wet cloth. Finally, wipe the spot with warm water that is mixed with 1 teaspoon with dishwashing liquid.

Shaving Cream Substitute

Peanut butter works great as a shaving cream substitute when you’re all out. It will allow your razor to glide across your skin which will be left feeling silky smooth.

Fixed Scratched Wood

Smear some peanut butter over scratches or cracks in your wood furniture. Leave it there overnight, or at least for 30 minutes, and wipe the rest off with a damp rag.
