Lugging your laundry all the way to the laundromat can be a real pain. But there are actually even more reasons to be grateful that you have a laundry machine.
Your washing machine isn’t just for cleaning your dirty laundry. There are lots of things that you can wash in a laundry machine.
Here are 15 of them:
Reusable Shopping or Tote Bag
You can wash cloth or canvas in a washing machine on the gentle cycle. To be on the safe side you should wash in cold water to prevent shrinking and air dry, unless the care instructions say otherwise.
Car Mats
You can wash these about every six months by putting them on the gentle cycle in cold water. Your car mats can be air dried.
Mop Heads
Fill up your machine with the hottest water possible and toss in your mop head in a mesh lingerie bag. Hang to dry.
Rubber Non-Slip Bath Mats
You can put this mat in with your towels on a regular cycle with warm water.
Pillows
Toss your pillow into your washing machine on the gentle cycle with warm water. You can place your pillows in the dryer on the low heat setting or tumble dry. Make sure to add some dryer balls or place a tennis ball inside of a sock.
Stuffed Animals
Stuffed animals can be placed inside a mesh bag and washed on the sanitize setting (very hot water). You can place these in the dryer on the lowest heat setting.
Backpacks
Backpacks get thrown on the floor quite often, which means they get very dirty. Wash it on the gentle cycle with cold water. Place a t0wel inside of it and let it air dry.
Patio Chair Pads
These things can be pretty dirty if you leave them out all year long. You can toss them in the washing machine on the gentle cycle with cold water. You should only wash what fits in the machine. Don’t force any pillows in. You can air dry these.
Canvas or Nylon Shoes (No Sneakers)
Wash on a gentle cycle with cold water. Let these air dry.
Shower Curtains and Liners
Place these in the washing machine with warm water and hang dry.
Oven Mitts
Toss oven mitts into your machine and the regular cycle with hot or warm water. Line dry.
Pet Beds
Try to remove as much pet hair as you can, then place it in the washer on the regular cycle with warm water. Dry according to the care label.
Sports Equipment
Most sports equipment can be washed on the regular cycle with warm water and air dry.
Small Rug
You can wash your small cotton or synthetic fiber rugs on a gentle cycle in cold water. Try not to wash your rug too often as to not wear out the fibers. Hang to dry.
Cloth Lunch Sacks
Place these in the washing machine inside out on a warm water gentle cycle. Air dry.
