What You Will Need

  • an old lamp
  • all purpose paint
  • a hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • a paint brush
  • scissors
  • fabric
  • glaze (optional)

Getting Started

First, find an old lamp that needs new life. If possible, remove the lampshade for an easier process. Wipe it clean, and make sure it is dust and dirt free. Paint the lamp stand with the color of your choice. The first coat of paint may be streaky, so add a second coat of paint to fix this.

Next, lay out your fabric and cut 4×4 inch squares. You can do this easily by folding the fabric then cutting 4 inch strips. Layer those strips and cut every 4 inches to make the squares. Large shades will require around 3 yards of fabric.

Cut those squares into circles.

Put  hot glue in the center of each circle of fabric. Pinch the center together to create a flower shape. Repeat this with all the circles.

Finally, glue each flower to the lampshade. Work in rows for a neater look, and add small amounts of glue to the lampshade at a time to prevent it from drying too fast. Fill up the lampshade with flowers. You can also glaze the lamp stand to add extra shine and help the paint last longer. Attach the lampshade back onto the stand, and you are done!
