Most people who have lived without a dishwasher are so thankful when they finally do have a dishwasher. It saves you tons of time and prevents your dishes from piling up in the sink.
But there are actually even more reasons to be thankful for your dishwasher as there are lots of uses for it that don’t involve washing dishes.
Light Fixtures
Glass light fixtures can be cleaned up really well in the dishwasher. Just make sure the glass is sturdy and to skip the heat dry cycle.
Sports Gear
Sports gear that can’t fit or can’t be cleaned in the washing machine can go right into the dishwasher, including knee pads, shin guards, and mouth guards.
Hair Tools and Accessories
With all the stuff you put in your hair, your brushes, headbands, and combs can get really dirty. You can easily clean them in your dishwasher. Just be sure to remove excess hair first and leave out items with natural bristles and wooden handles.
Sanitize Your Toothbrush
If you are getting over being sick and want to sanitize your toothbrush, you can toss it right in the dishwasher.
Baseball Hats
Use a rubber band to keep your hats in place on the top rack and run the dishwasher.
Shine Your Hubcaps
Your hubcaps will be cleaner than you’ve ever seen them if you run them through the dishwasher with a cup of vinegar.
Pet Toys
Most pet toys, aside from rope toys and hides, are dishwasher safe.
Canvas Sneakers, Flip Flops, Rubber Boots
Just make sure you remove the liners and run the dishwasher again on empty after you run the shoes.
Cleaning Supplies
You can put vacuum attachments, dust pans, broom heads and floor brushes into your dishwasher too. Just remove all of the excess dirt and hair first and skip the dry cycle.
Cook Vegetables
If you place vegetables in a mason jar or wrap things like potatoes or yams in foil, you can cook them in your dishwasher.
Plastic Toys
Actions figures, blocks and other plastic toys can also be cleaned in the dishwasher. If they are tiny, it’s best to put your items in a mesh bag and place them in the top rack.
Poach Salmon
Wrap some salmon in foil and let it poach in your dishwasher.
Fan Grilles and Vent Covers
These can get pretty dirty and be hard to clean. But not if you put them in the dishwasher. This is for plastic and aluminum only.
Dish Sponges and Towels
The hot temperature of your dishwasher can easily sanitize your dish towels and sponges.
