White vinegar has long been known for having a variety of uses. It has health benefits and can be used indoors, outdoors, in the kitchen and in the bathroom.
Here are our favorite non-culinary uses for white vinegar:
De-Skunk
If you or your pet were sprayed by a skunk you can soak yourself or the animal in a solution of half vinegar half water. Once you’re done soaking you can rinse off in water.
Perfect Poached Eggs
You can add a few tablespoons of white vinegar to the water when you are poaching eggs to help the egg whites stay intact.
Keep Your Cat Away
You can leave a sponge soaked in vinegar in areas outdoors to prevent your cat from marking the area. The cat will avoid the smell of the vinegar. You can also spray vinegar on areas in your home to prevent the cat from scratching.
Revive Leafy Vegetables
Soak your leafy vegetables with some water a little bit of vinegar in it to perk them back up again if they’ve gotten a little wilted.
Hand Wash
If you’ve been chopping onions you can get the smell off of your hands by rinsing your hands in white vinegar.
Extend the Life of Flowers
Add a few tablespoons of vinegar to your vase with a teaspoon of sugar to help your cut flowers last longer.
Deodorize Drains
Mix equal parts of vinegar and baking soda and pour it down your drain or garbage disposal. Let it fizz for a few minutes before you flush it with warm water.
Kill Weeds, Slugs, and Crabgrass
Use equal parts of vinegar and water and pour it over areas where you have slugs, weeds, and crabgrass.
Clean Out Your Microwave
Place a bowl of boiling vinegar and water in your microwave. The steam will loosen up any caked on food and get rid of odors.
Frost-Free Windows
Mix three parts vinegar and one part water in a spray bottle and use this mixture to wipe your car windows down. The solution will prevent frost from forming on your windows.
Whiten Tile Grout
Let some vinegar soak into your tile grout for about 30 minutes then use a toothbrush to scrub away dirt and grime. This will help to whiten your tile grout.
Remove a Sticker
Saturate a bumper sticker or sticker with some vinegar and let it sit for a few hours. The sticker should peel right off within that time.
Fix Scratched DVDs
If you have a DVD that skips, try wiping it down with a soft cloth and some vinegar to remove dirt and smooth over scuffs.
Remove Gum
Pour some vinegar over a piece of gum that is stuck in car upholstery, rugs, or carpeting and try to pull the gum off. The vinegar should help it to slide right off.
Remove Sweat Stains
Spray sweat stains with some vinegar before tossing your garment into the wash to help prevent discoloration.
