These tiny houses are always built with unique elements all mixed together. And it tells us the characters of the people who built them.
In Wellington, New Zealand, we’re visiting a home based on a DIY project of this lovely couple.
Meet Erin and Jake.
Their home features an unusual area in their humble abode.
It was built with this area in mind.
Erin and Jake got inspired by watching tiny house tours for years and decided to make their own mobile home.
Erin is an architect by profession.
She designed the tiny house, whereas Jake provides more freedom in the design and feeds them to Erin so she can lay it out.
After Several changes and tweaking on the model house, they went all in and started the project.
They started in the backyard.
Since Erin’s father was a builder, it was strategic to start building from their yard.
Jake often visited every weekend due to his job so he could help whatever he could with the project.
Once the tiny mobile home was finished, they transported it into an empty space they found online that fit the tiny house.
The interior is well thought out.
This includes where the stove and refrigerator will be put in, how they put up the couch and the fireplace, and the unique double loft space up top.
The living area has a high ceiling to convey a more spacious ambiance. It has an L-shaped couch just to the side by the small furnace.
To the other side lies a galley kitchen which they can freely move in.
The stove and oven, as well as the fridge, are located below the staircase for the loft so it does not use too much walking space.
Drawers and cabinets are also lined up for more storage.
The open shelf fits the design.
Across the kitchen is their bathroom. It’s simple enough to have a small shower, compost toilet, and sink to fit in. Simple and economical.
The double loft is doubly interesting.
Going up the stairs, the loft at the top is divided into two. One is for the bed space, and the other one is for their insanely large TV.
The queen-sized bed fits right into the first loft area.
The divider to the second one works as their drawer to hang their clothes, up top is where they place their laundry baskets.
Then there’s the corner stone room.
…so-to-speak.
It’s the room the house was designed around. The room that was always meant to be.
Welcome to their theater loft.
A skylight was added to create the facade of a bigger space, complete with a window to the side.
The TV itself fits right on the wall. A 55″ screen of cinema glory privately tucked away for them to revel in whenever the mood or the time strikes.
The house speaks for itself. All in all, Erin and Jake are proud of what they have accomplished so far.
It’s a DIY home project carried out by a dynamic and lovely couple.
