Annabel Vita, a blogger from the United Kingdom, was stuck in a dilemma. Her bedroom directly faced a window, and as a result, she lacked the privacy she desired. However, there was only one window in her bedroom, so if she used window shades, then there would be no natural light in her room.
It’s a tough situation to be in, but fortunately, Anna is very creative, and she came up with the perfect solution that’s both cost-efficient and brilliant.
First, Annabel traced the size of the window panes onto a piece of cardboard. Next, she cut out pieces of lace that matched the shape and size of the cardboard.
Once she had all the lace cut out, Annbel created a starch mixture that she calls starch “jelly.”
Using 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and equal amounts of water, she mixed the two ingredients together. Then, Annabel poured 1 1/2 cups of boiling water into the mixture. After combining some more, she grabbed a paintbrush and coated the inside of the windowpane with the mixture.
After coating, she placed a piece of lace fabric inside each pane and pressed it against the glass. The idea was to have it stick to the starch mixture.
Once the fabric was “glued” on, Annabel coated the backside of the lace fabric one more time for added stability.
It might not look great as Annabel puts it together. The fabric doesn’t always stick smoothly, so Annabel had to flatten out the bumpy parts with her fingers. Because she’s working with lace, it was easy to do. Lace is porous so there weren’t any air bubbles to worry about!
Once she finished, Anna took a step back and admired the result of her work. It’s absolutely gorgeous!
The lace provides a great layer of privacy and protection from the outside, but it also allows in just enough natural light to keep the room lit during the day.
