Are you looking for a creative vase for your plants? Try making one at home.
Sure, it’s easier to go to the mall or home improvement store and buy one. But the pretty ones are quite expensive, and those that are cheap are not as lovely as you want them to be.
So instead of spending much time in store aisles deciding which vase is which, why not make one?
You might think a DIY vase would take much of your time, but we promise it wouldn’t.
There might be some waiting time (to dry stuff), but you can always do something else, right? Besides, it’s always good to exercise your creativity from time to time.
If you love the beach and the sea, this sand and seashell vase is perfect for you.
The materials for this DIY vase are everyday household items like white glue, a glue gun, and a paintbrush. You also need a balloon, and we bet you have some extras from the last birthday party!
The tricky part is getting some sand and shells.
Yes, you might think… “can’t I get them free from the beach?” but it’s not that easy. You might want to check state regulations for your upcoming beach trip to see if they allow you to take some sand and shells home. If not, your nearest craft store might have a few of these.
This vase would need a balloon to determine its shape and size.
Look for a balloon that can inflate at least to the size you want your vase to be. If unsure, you can always check the label or ask the store. It’s also important not to inflate it too much because we don’t want that to pop!
Ready to start this vase project? Prepare the following items first:
- Balloon
- White Glue
- Paintbrush (Optional)
- Sand
- Glue gun
- Seashells
- Spray paint (Optional)
Here’s how you can make this beautiful sand and seashell vase.
- Inflate the balloon according to your desired size for the vase.
- Find a round object as the basis for your opening. This could be a jar cover or your roll of packaging tape. Trace that on the tied end of the balloon.
- Using a paintbrush, spread glue evenly on the balloon up to the line you traced earlier.
- Sprinkle or spread the sand all over the glued area until it is completely covered.
- Repeat this process until you are satisfied with the thickness of the sand. Let it dry.
- Attach some seashells to your vase using a glue gun. You can use any type of shell that you prefer.
- You can add shells at the bottom to help stabilize the vase.
- If you like to add some color to the vase, you can use spray paint for even color distribution. Let the paint dry.
- Once dry, you can place your plant inside, and voila!
