The Geoppler Cider Mill and Topstone Post Office building was originally built in 1880, and after sitting abandoned and out of commission for years, the gorgeous structure was transformed into a unique home filled with remnants of history.
Located in Ridgefield, Connecticut, the renovated building is now an inviting New England retreat.
The old cider mill was renovated and refurnished with locally and regionally sourced materials. It was important to retain the historic building’s rustic charm. The home also boasts an apartment with a private entrance that could be rented out to tenants or used as a guest space.
Step inside the home and you’ll enter the cozy and welcoming living space.
Beautiful cherry hardwood floors flow throughout the home and roughly finished wood beams complement the building’s history. The seating area has plenty of space for a large family and is heated by the woodstove in the rear of the room.
A second seating area is located on the opposite side of the spacious great room.
Tall ceilings and elegant wood shelving make this seating nook a dreamy place to grab a book and relax. Windows are located on every wall of the home, letting natural light flood inside.
The kitchen was remodeled in 2004 and features beautiful maple cabinetry with full-size appliances.
With the abundance of counter space, imagine the delicious meals that could be prepared in this expansive kitchen. With modern amenities like a dishwasher and full-size fridge, you’d never guess you were in a structure built in the 19th century.
Enjoy your homecooked meals in the gorgeous farmhouse-style dining room.
The dining nook is sectioned off by built-in cabinetry using the same vibrant cherry wood as the flooring.
‘Classic and simple’ is the theme for four bedrooms in the unique home.
The architecture of the old cider mill speaks for itself, which is why decor and furnishings could be kept to a minimum. Notice the impressively high ceilings and antique trunk at the foot of the bed.
Another room in the home was converted into an office with lots of bright, natural light.
The dark wooden beams are a stunning contrast with the vibrant yellow walls. A perfect place to focus and get down to business, or to let your creative juices flow.
The luxurious master bathroom is something you would have never dreamed of in the 1880’s.
The elegant bathroom is essentially your very own high-end spa. There are stone countertops, a large sink, and a deep bathtub perfect for soaking away your day’s stresses.
The structure already came with a rich and vibrant history, and now that it’s undergone such a stunning makeover, many more memories are sure to be made.
