Lemons have a lot more going for them than being a sweet and sour fruit. There are lots of things you can do and problems you can solve around your home with lemons.
Here are some of our favorite household uses for lemon.
Soothe an Upset Stomach
You can soothe an upset stomach by sucking on a lemon.
Cure Bad Breath
Gargle with some lemon juice to get rid of bad breath.
Clean Copper Pots
Cut a lemon in half and sprinkle some salt on the cut side. Use it to scrub your copper pots clean. Rinse it off with some hot water and polish dry.
Discolored Utensils
You can reverse discoloration of your utensils by dipping a cloth in lemon juice and rinse with warm water.
Whiten Your Socks
Boil your dull and dirty looking white socks with some lemon slices to whiten them.
Freshen Up Your Garbage Disposal
Put pieces of lemon in your garbage disposal to keep it from getting dirty and smelly.
Soothe a Sore Throat
Gargle with some lemon juice to soothe a sore throat.
Clean Your China
Scour your china with a mixture of one part lemon juice and two parts salt.
Make Your House Smell Great
Place a few drops of lemon juice into the dust bag of your vacuum cleaner.
Remove Rust
Mix one tablespoon of lemon juice with two tablespoons of salt and use it to scrub away rust.
Keep Bugs Out of Your Paint
Drop some lemon juice into wet paint to ward off insects from jumping into your paint until the paint dries.
Shine Your Hair
Juice an entire lemon and pour it into an 8-ounce glass of warm water and pour it over your head after shampooing.
Revive Stiff Paintbrushes
Boil some lemon juice and lower the heat. Let your paintbrush soak in it for about 15 minutes before washing it in soapy water.
Clean Pots and Freshen the Air
Let some lemon slices simmer in a pot of boiling water for an hour. This will make your house smell great as well as clean your aluminum pots.
Remove Stink
Rub a cut lemon on your hands, wooden rolling pins, bowls, or cutting boards to get rid of fishy or stinky smells.
Remove Water Spots
Rub a lemon peel on your kitchen and bathroom faucets. Wash off and shine with a cloth to get rid of water spots.
