Home is where the heart is.

Everyone dreams of having a home that reflects their passion, interest, style, personality, and more. Not all homeowners are able to achieve this kind of home though. Most homeowners put off creating the type of home that they want because there are more important things that they need to spend their money on.

Let’s admit it, even starting or having a collection of decors and pieces that will make up the theme you want for your home is extravagant. And when you have kids around who may break the costly pieces, you’d rather not make a purchase of those.

Emma doesn’t mind spending more to create the home that embodies her interest and lifestyle.

She has always loved anything vintage, so she decides to transform her home to get that look and ambiance. From the small pieces like teacups, pots, kettles, the fridge, and all other appliances and decors, everything is old-fashioned, outdated yet chic.

Emma is the happiest to have a home like hers.

Emma Edwards, with her partner Nigel Preston, lives in Greater Manchester, UK. And it is where you can find their authentic vintage-looking 1950s home that is also Tiki-inspired.

You’ll be amazed at her collection of Tiki pieces.

Emma explains how her interest in vintage style started,

“I’ve been into the vintage high style since the early 80s. When I was at school at the time, there was a lot of youth subcultures, and I was really attracted by the mod and rockabilly subcultures.”

To come up with a vintage home, she has sourced her decors and collections from different parts of the world. But, most of the pieces were purchased from the United States.

Emma says,

“A lot of my best pieces have come from the United States because my whole sub-style is about the 50s, American and Tiki-style.”

Being a lover of vintage items, she has splurged over some things that she cannot ignore to have in her collection.

“I guess my most expensive purchase would be my Alfred Meakin cactus print crockery. Just simply because there’s quite a lot of pieces and it’s quite collectible now and harder to find, so I think that all adds up in value probably to several hundred pounds.”

Now that we are in the modern times, it is harder to find retro pieces, and it is even more expensive to buy them these days.

She shares,

“It can take a long time to build a collection, and I think it’s even harder now than when I was first collecting in the 80s and 90s. Back then, you can find pieces in charity shops and flea markets.”

Living in a vintage home suits her very much, and fortunately her partner has adjusted to it. She owns a vintage clothing business, and this is why it has become a lifestyle for her.

“For me, this is very much a full-time lifestyle that kind of fits in with my reproduction vintage clothing business, Miss Bamboo, who’s also my alter ego.”

Emma’s obsession with the 1950s made her spend thousands of pounds transforming her home and making it into a mid-century mecca. However, she has put her house for sale for around £415,000. She and her partner have been planning to upsize. Hence they are selling their Polynesian paradise.
