Don’t you just want to travel and live closer to nature?

This might be a dream for a lot of people, especially those who are tired of all the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

You wake up and work, you come home and sleep.

This is the routine that we wish we could all be free from.

It would be a dream come true to become nomads who live to travel the world – or at least the USA.

But, this is a dream that not all of us can realize.

It takes courage to leave your routine and just travel and be free, and one family found this bravery when they decided to swap their mortgage with a motorhome.

Jen Omohundro and her husband JR made a huge decision when they chose to travel across the USA and stop their mortgage.

They swapped it for a 300-square-foot motorhome that they finished renovating in March 2021.

After the preparations were all made, the couple together with their two children hit the road and made their dream come true.

They worked remotely, homeschooled the kids, and enjoyed life on the road together.

The family does not regret their decision and even saves more than $30,000 each year after their courageous change of lifestyle.

Jen and JR share that they initiated the decision when they heard about another family doing the same thru a podcast.

It was not serious at first, but Jen was quite surprised that her husband was also game for the big change.

“The family was talking about how incredible it was and what the kids were then experiencing,” said Jen.

“I thought it sounded so unique and cool, but I never thought my husband would go for it. But he surprised me and said he would be up for it.”

It only took a short time for the couple to do their research. A week later, the house that was on the mortgage was already up for sale.

Jen and JR spent $314,000 on their motorhome.

Their monthly expenses consisted of less than $800 worth of fuel and $1,450 on motorhome sites on average.

Compared to their previous monthly payments, the couple saves about $1,800 each month in their new home.

It is a big save that allowed the family to enjoy their traveling more.

After more than a year of traveling, the Omohundro family visited 36 states wherein they stayed for about two weeks in each of them.

Savings aside, the family is more thankful for the other benefit that they get to enjoy.

The fact that they get to be together each day while enjoying the beauty of each state is already a major advantage.

It is literally a dream come true.

Each state has its own beauty and this family’s choice to enjoy life while on the road is a decision that they do not regret.

The couple gets to share valuable experiences with their children, a 14-year-old daughter named Kelsey and a 10-year-old son Lane.

“We’ve had so many experiences as a family that we never would have had without doing this,” said Jen. “We’ve done mountain hikes, swam with whales, and ridden on a pedal railway.”

Homeschooling and working remotely is also a good way for them to earn and learn without having to be away from each other.

“Homeschooling has been great for the kids as we use an online program but back it up with real experiences. My son is now a year ahead of where he would be if he was still in school,” she added.

“We took them to an archeological site where they were digging up mammoths, it was amazing. We love this lifestyle, but we’ll always go with the flow and what is best for the family.”

The family now lives in an upgraded 400-square-foot home where they have more rooms and more space to enjoy traveling together.
